Business Intelligence Programmer/Analyst

The Business Intelligence Programmer/Analyst will work collaboratively with
fellow members of Enterprise Systems, other Library and Information
Technology (IT) teams, and business area teams to provide coordination,
analysis, coding, and technical leadership for our Client’s business
intelligence and data warehousing initiative.

Specifically, this position will support the development and implementation
of the SunGard Operational Data Store (ODS) and Enterprise Data Warehouse
(EDW) by translating, modeling, and integrating user requirements into the
ODS and EDW. This includes joining with L&IT subject matter experts during
meetings with the user community to explore and document business
requirements. This position will be key to translating business
requirements into technical requirements, and working closely with the
Business Intelligence Technical Architect to plan, data model, and develop
the ETL processes and OLAP data structures that will make the requirements a
reality while maintaining the long-term vision, structure, and integrity
required for a university-wide data warehouse.

This position will also serve as a resource for functional users and
reporting developers to understand data warehouse data definitions and
connect them with the specific data elements that will answer their broad
business questions. This may include data model training and assistance in
defining and maintaining data warehouse metadata and a data dictionary.

MUST HAVES:

• Bachelor's degree in business or a technology-related field or
equivalent experience.

• Minimum of five years progressive experience supporting BI services
including advanced ETL development.

• Database experience with Oracle 10g and 11g and Warehouse Builder

• Experience in requirements analysis.

• Experience in developing Business Intelligence solutions (reports,
dashboards, scorecards) using Cognos, or comparable tools preferred.
Hyperion Interactive Reporting experience a plus.

• Advanced knowledge of Relational Database Management System
architecture and concepts, including strong experience in data modeling,
star schema, and denormalized data models with conformed dimensions.

• Exemplary communication skills (both written and oral) evidenced by
background in preparing comprehensive reports and executive summaries
incorporating complex, highly technical information.

• Strong negotiation skills and the ability to work on
cross-functional teams.

NICE TO HAVES:

• Experience working in a university setting preferred. Knowledge
and understanding of key concepts in higher education highly desired.

• Will consider someone without Cognos if they are an expert in data
warehousing. (Cognos is preferred because there is minimal in-house
experience in Cognos with our Client.)

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Operations and Project Responsibilities:

• Provide project coordination and business analysis leadership by
working directly with subject matter experts and functional teams to define,
develop, and implement data models, policies, and procedures that will best
meet the decision support needs of the campus.

• Collaborate to refine business processes that relate to the data
warehouse and business intelligence, including data validation procedures.

• Document and translate and develop/code user requirements into data
models, ETL processes, OLAP data structures and other deliverables in
collaboration with the BI Technical Architect.

• Ensure accurate, useful and readily accessible data by developing
and implementing policies and procedures for strategic data planning, data
analysis and modeling, and data element use.

• Facilitate management of metadata and data definitions by end-users,
including support of a community data report library through membership on
the Data Definitions and Stewardship Team.

• Write queries, develop reports and conduct analyses for the
campus-wide data warehouse and business intelligence system.

• Design, implement, and support business intelligence dashboards.

• Identify data quality issues and work with appropriate staff to
resolve issues and processes as needed.

• Determine testing needed to assure the functionality and integrity
of reporting solutions, create test plans, and evaluate testing results
taking corrective action as necessary.

• Participate in evaluating and analyzing utilities and tools offered
by BI applications/tools vendors.

• Represent our Client within the higher education data warehouse
community and at professional organizations or associations, serve on
committees as required.

• Perform other duties as assigned or requested.

• Be willing to respond to emergency situations as they arise outside
of normal working hours.

Process Responsibilities:

• Champion policies and standards governing the Project Life Cycle
(PLC) including, but not limited to the testing of new releases, the
development of enhancements, deployment, daily operations and maintenance,
reporting and documentation (technical and end user).

• Support strategy for code review, reusability and versioning.

• Support policies which promote process and service improvement
across the enterprise.

People Responsibilities:

• Provide regular, ongoing feedback to peers and management promoting
continuous improvement, proactive service, and relationship building.

Technical Planning, Communication and Management Responsibilities:

• Serve as a proactive advocate for the appropriate use of baseline
vendor functions in order to limit the support and maintenance activities
associated with customized solutions.

• Keep abreast of new technology developments and make recommendations
regarding opportunities for implementation.

• Maintain technical competencies and currency related to SunGard
Higher Education supported ODS and EDW releases and other applications as
assigned to fully support the University community.
