Location: Rochester, NY/Webster, NY Duration : 6-9 months Type: 6 Months C2C Rate : $Best EA Data Architect Purpose and Description of Role A data architect determines the logical design and information management strategies necessary to store, move and manage data in a new target state or an alternative version of an existing state. Data architects oversee these efforts for a department or business unit. Responsibilities and Activities · Determine overall modeling standards, guidelines, best practices and approved modeling techniques. · Supervise the creation of all conceptual, logical and physical data models. · Supervise the data modeling staff and the data administration team (modeling, metadata managers and user query optimization). Ensure that data modeling practices and guidelines are followed in order to avoid physical model bias. · Review proposed data models contained in packaged or commercially available applications before they are bought. · Participate in data integration, business intelligence (BI) and enterprise information management programs by rationalizing data processing to support reuse. · Work with data services administrators to develop the data objects and data models to support data services in service-oriented architecture. · Collect and identify the various metadata assets. · Identify the data assets that are deemed significant to the enterprise, as determined by the business impact, decision impact, risk mitigation or organizational impact of the information. · Model the future state of the data architecture and provide data architecture best practices and guidelines. · Establish metrics for tracking and measuring the value of data architecture initiatives. For example, measuring model reuse, impact on project costs or improved data consistency across diverse initiatives. · Ensure that critical information assets modeled as part of any project are represented in the enterprise information architecture (EIA) and follow the design guidelines and requirements of EIA. Metrics for Evaluation Data architects typically report to an information architecture team. Managers can measure the performance of data architects by: · The performance of applications. · User satisfaction. · Productivity of data modelers and administrators. · Reuse of models for critical data assets across projects. Background Data architects have typically been senior programmers or database administrators. They need these skills: · Ability to define the value of the data asset to the enterprise. · Conceptual, logical and physical modeling, especially for rationalizing data objects. · System analysis. · Ability to collaborate with information architects, content architects and other data architects to support common goals and approaches. · Ability to collaborate with business analysts and data stewards to assess if the model is fit for use. *K.M.
