Senior System Engineer / WebSphere Administrator

 

 

Responsibilities

 

This senior level position is primarily responsible for the day-to-day 
maintenance 
and administration of Internet-based enterprise systems. On an on-going basis, 
this position will identify root causes of operational issues in order to 
resolve 
them. As required, this position will help develop tools and scripts to 
facilitate 
that maintenance and administration. This position will also work closely with 
other teams to document the enterprise infrastructure and monitoring systems. 
This position is also responsible for planning and execution of small to 
large-scale 
projects within the Systems Engineering organization teams under the direction 
of the manager. Typical projects would include new business unit initiatives 
and updates to existing products and services. This position is also 
responsible 
for evaluation, implementation and support for shared products developed for 
DTSS sites. This includes any applications, hardware configuration, custom 
software implementation, database administration, network and systems design, 
performance and availability monitoring, process improvement, and systems 
documentation.

Qualifications

 

• 7+ years experience designing, supporting and deploying Internet-based 
products 
or services 

• 4+ years operating complex, large-scale Enterprise guest-facing Applications 
or web sites 

• Experience working in a high capacity, highly scalable mission-critical web 
serving environment 

• Proven ability to participate with other functional teams in systems 
integration 
and design including writing operational specifications, test plans and 
requirements 
management with attention to detail 

• Superior judgment, problem resolution, team building, negotiation, and 
decision-making 
skills as well as the ability to work under continual deadline pressure 

• Experience with F5 load balancing helpful 

• UNIX/LINUX and Windows and server experience, including expertise in system 
installation, configuration, administration, troubleshooting, performance 
tuning, 
preventative maintenance, capacity planning, monitoring, and security 
procedures 


• Experience with both emergent web and enterprise bus

 

Additional Information

WebSphere primary servicer platform; automation and automating those things. 
Continuous integration. Building out environmments, buiildling out web servers. 
Not so much on Chef and Puppet. This fiscal year is all about automation. AIX 
webshere (chef is only in beta on AIX). Migrating some applications to linux 
so they leverage other tools. Move web servers to Linux, all through CHEF. 
HIS a version of Apache. Straight Apache. 
1. Websphere is #1 (90% of work in this space) latest version of webshpere 
so they could get the new features (well versed in 6 at least) i.e. 
autorecovery 
dynamic allocations that are available in 8.5- been out for a year and a half 
2. Background in application performance management. They use Willey, starting 
to use New Relic- all-around performance management is a huge focus. 
3. Automation 
4. Various industry experience- automation tools, whatever they be- Automation 
around configuration management. Automation all deployments; now we want to 
automate infrastructure components. Chef is good, rundeck would be super 
helpful.
