I have an opportunity in Center City Philadelphia with an investment firm.
They need to build a new data warehouse and the manager is looking for a
strong, experienced Data Architect that has deep data modeling experience
and can create the corporate data dictionary. The data is primarily in
Oracle, although the company is mostly a MS shop. The Data Architect will
be responsible for business process improvement, architect the data
warehouse, create the corporate data dictionary, and create
policies/procedures regarding the data. It is a great organization, many of
the current staff came from investment companies in NYC, and the manager is
dedicated to finding the right person with investment industry experience.
Must be able to attand an on-site interview NO SKYPE NO EXCEPTIONS!!!!  All
Parties are Encouraged to Apply, Including 3rd Parties, Corp to Corp or
W2.  STRONGLY prefer candidates with Investment/wealth management domain
experience



*Data Architect                                               *

Data Architect will design, develop, and implement data repository and work
with business teams and development teams to ensure business solutions.
Data Architect will create data modeling policies and procedures, review
data definitions, and reduce redundancy. Data Architect will be responsible
for documentation of the data lifecycle and its use across systems. Data
Architect will design a data landscape, make recommendations, and enhance
data structure. Data Architect will create documentation to develop data
mappings and transformations. Data Architect will work with users to
develop/improve/maintain data environment and create a corporate meta-data
repository.



*Job Summary*

The primary responsibility of the Data Architect is to oversee the design,
development and implementation of data repository. Interface with business
stakeholders and developers to ensure the timely delivery of effective,
extensible and maintainable Investment Management business solutions. The
Data Architect will review data definitions, standardize data policy and
processes, and reduce data redundancy.. The Data Architect will understand
and document the lifecycle of data and use across multiple systems. In
addition to current state the architect will also provide a comprehensive
design of the data landscape making recommendations to enhance structure,
control and consistency.



*Essential Job Functions*

·         Understand the domain, purpose, and source of the data in OUR
databases and provide guidance with regards to the use of that data.

·         Define standards for naming, describing, managing and storing
data within

·         Develop, maintain and administer the corporate meta-data
repository;

·         Communicate with and/ or interview users to plan, develop,
improve and maintain moderately complex components of the logical/ physical
corporate model;

·         Develop, maintain and adhere to enterprise modeling standards;

·         Create ETL Specifications/ documentation used to develop data
migration mappings and transformations for Data Warehouse initiatives

·         Sponsor and Lead Enterprise Data Initiatives. Work independently
as well as thrive in a team oriented environment.

·         Quickly adapt to changing priorities and new technologies.

·         Multi-task varying business initiatives in a fast paced changing
environment.

·         Provide technical leadership and mentoring to team members and
users.

·         Stay informed and abreast of new developments within the industry.

·         Comply with all departments’ standards and procedures.



*Requirements*

·         Expert-level proficiency with relational database design, SQL
Query tuning and SQL programming in Oracle, SQL Server or other relational
database.

·         In-depth understanding of investment management industry and the
effective use of technology to support Portfolio Managers, Traders,
Operations, etc.

·         In-depth knowledge of fixed income instruments including
securitized, derivatives, and interest rate products and related analytics.

·         Thorough understanding and proven experience performing
conceptual, logical and physical data modeling with data modeling/tools,
database design (SQL Server and/or Oracle)

·         Database design (SQL Server and/or Oracle), and Relational Data
Management System partitioning and tuning expertise;

·         Possess the ability to recognize and identify patterns in data
relationships from disparate systems Experience in creation or usage of
Dimensional Models (STAR Schema)

·         Data Management Governance

·         Experience with and understanding of Service Oriented
Architecture.

·         In-depth knowledge of key buy-side investment management
processes such as order management life cycle, portfolio management,
trading, portfolio compliance, pricing, analytics, client service, and
operations including STP.

·         Ability to work on multiple projects, manage user expectations
and complete work requests within the stated or expected deadlines.

·         Strong analytical and problem solving skills.

·         Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

·         Strong leadership and organizational skills.

·         Working knowledge of Bloomberg Data License, IDC, BarCap POINT
and/or other investment management systems and data providers.



*Education/Experience:*

·         Bachelor degree required. Degree in Computer Science, Engineering
or Mathematics strongly desired. Advanced degrees a plus.

·         6 + years of progressive experience in data related disciplines
and data modeling and architecture

·         5 + years in creation of data dictionaries, defining meta data
management approaches and governance processes.

·         Additional certifications in investment management (i.e. CFA
designation) a plus.

·         Approx 8+ years of experience in a buy-side investment management
firm.

·         Working knowledge of Eagle Pace data repository and portal a plus.

·         Experience in developing and maintaining Investment Management
Data Taxonomy a big plus
