However, the candidate should be good in databases and have some modeling knowledge. Point 2 is the success factor for Point 1. The candidate should be good and hands-on in SQL and should know how to work in SQL on the database side and not only on the Cognos side. Should have good knowledge of stored procedures. On the modeling side, please make it clear to the candidate that we require database modeling knowledge. Most of the Cognos Candidates I spoke to seem to confuse Cognos Framework modeling with database modeling. If they say they know DB modeling tools like ER-Win, that should be current hands-on and not “once upon a time….”. RDBMS preferred – DB2. On the Cognos Framework manager side, the following is required: 1. Exceptionally good handle on Framework elements, creating models within the framework, relationships and scope relationships. 2. Should know how to design a framework model so that data is not duplicated in the framework model. A lot of times, this is a common bad design example that we see. 3. Should know publishing packages in detail. 4. Should know framework projects, namespaces etc. Most important of all, the candidate should be currently hands-on on all the skillsets mentioned above.
