*ROLE:  Linux/Unix Engineer*

*Location: Parsippany, NJ*

*Duration: 6 Months*



*Summary*



The Virtualization and Linux/Unix Engineer position will be responsible for
developing, configuring, installing, and maintaining the Virtualization
infrastructure and Windows server hardware and operating systems in a
multi-platform mission critical environment.

This position requires extensive experience and a high level of technical
understanding of the technology under the scope of the role.

This person will be responsible for daily system maintenance tasks, service
delivery, system functionality and availability and keeping technology
current with the industry standards and best practices.

The candidate must have a functional understanding of disaster recovery
between multiple datacenters.

Under supervision from the Director, the Virtualization and Linux/Unix
Engineer will participate in departmental projects by assisting in the
development of project plans, documentation, and performing of project
tasks.

This person will be responsible for making recommendations for forecasting
the growth of the Virtualization and Linux/Unix server environments,
designing/engineering recommendations for upgrades, technology shifts and
redesigns to stay current, competitive and provide an optimized backend
infrastructure.

This resource will also be required to participate in an on-call support
rotation.

   1. Administer Linux/Unix and VMWare based systems and servers, including
   changes, break fix, tuning and optimization, builds and security hardening,
   etc.

   isolating, and resolving technical incidents and problems (in the context
   of ITIL) for all systems under management

*Scope/Financial Responsibility*

Describe quantifiable measures that will help define the value of the
position.  Examples include size of budget, business metrics, etc.  Also,
describe the impact on revenue, profit or expenses by stating activities
that could affect financial results of BUs



   1. More than 700 physical and virtual servers under administration.
   2. This position’s area of responsibility centers on the support and
   maintenance of critical business systems.  Therefore, systems availability,
   and the quality of systems maintenance or implementation, can have an
   indirect impact on revenue, profit or expenses.



*Competencies*



   - *Expert level experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux and Solaris
   systems administration.*
   - *Expert level experience with SPARC systems.*
   - *Expert level experience with VMWare.*
   - *Experience with other Datacenter Management solutions and automation.*
   - Experience with production change management policies and procedures,
   rigorous documentation standards, separation of duties, etc.
   - Experience with testing disaster recovery strategies across multiple
   datacenters.

·         Experience with following policies, rules and regulations as they
pertain to IT Governance.

   - Excellent communication skills are required (both verbal and written)
   – correspondence and meetings with internal customers will be common.
   Excellent communication, documentation and presentation skills for delivery
   to IT, senior management, business units and clients.
   - Highly motivated, self-starter who can take direction but does not
   need micro-managing.
   - Innovative individual who thinks outside of existing constraints and
   can bring new ideas and fresh thinking.
   - Ability to analyze problems, propose solutions, and drive issues to
   resolution.
   - Ability to deal with changing priorities and handle multiple projects.
   - Ability to negotiate and influence others.
   - Ability to meet service level agreements and provide high quality
   customer service.
   - Ability to work well with other business units and support teams to
   complete project plan tasks, changes, resolve issues, etc.





*Minimum Requirements and Qualifications*



·         Bachelor’s of Science degree or equivalent experience

·         7+ years – professional experience as a Systems
Administrator/Engineer responsible for managing Red Hat Enterprise Linux
and Solaris based operating systems and hardware and a virtualized
infrastructure environment.

·         VMware, ESXi, vSphere, VMWare Update Manager.

·         Extensive experience in a large environment with clustering,
failover/recovery and load balancing and disaster recovery strategies is
required.

·         Experience with Cisco UCS is a plus.
