When the open-vm-tools are built with procps, the guestinfo subsystem in 
vmware-guestd periodically publishes information about guest memory consumption 
to the host through the Tools backdoor. This information isn't used in any of 
our current products, but is likely to be used in a future product. So it's 
safe to say that for the time being, it doesn't add any value.

One of these days we'll find the time to document all of this stuff. On a 
related note, would anyone like to help with documentation?
