Well, to 'my' understanding the open-vm-tools are to be installed on a
virtual machine (inside a guest) whereas the report I pointed out in the
mail is more about the host system not having the capabilities it should
provide for installation.

Would you generally advise to install open-vm-tools on the host and the
guest?
