The VMware Tools configurator (vmware-config-tools.pl) isn't part of the 
open-vm-tools. What you're trying to do is install the regular VMware Tools, 
most likely the ones that shipped with ESX 3.5. We can try to help you with 
them too, but you'll probably have more luck filing a support request or 
posting in the VMware forums.
