The version of open-vm-tools that is released monthly is a "developer 
preview" kind of product, that is supposed to give a glimpse of the 
upcoming changes. We have a stable version of the same which corresponds to 
the version of VMwareTools released with or latest Workstation/Fusion 
products.

VMwareTools software that is shipped with our platform software is the 
version that has been tested by QA and is supported by us.
