After one additional day of code reviewing, it seems that I got stuck.
Trying to list any files lying under /afs still crashes my machine ...
I managed to get rid of most of the warnings from the kind blablabla
pointer to integer blablabla, but it seems that I still have not solved
the real cause of the crash - Hmmm....... I still have the feeling that
the kernel module causes the problem ....
I attached the patch file with my changes. Please note that this is only
a very quick and dirty hack without any "ifdef ..." to seperate most of
these only ia64-specific changes from the other targets.

Any comments, hints etc. are wellcomed.
