Ooh, now I've finally managed to keep the system stable long enough that
the originally posited "when you've exercised the system enough to start
recycling vnodes it'll fall over" panic. Unpacked a tarball, tried to run
configure in there once or twice, read the README, and then sat back and
waited:

Nothing AFS-specific in that BT, but I'd blame the AFS module for fscking
up the vnode entries.
