That said, of course it doesn't mean we shouldn't keep looking at this and
either convince ourselves that Chris's patch is correct or else come up with
something else.
There's an alternative patch which preserves the make-copy-of-structure
behavior in the original message (and in RT #53457). Both approaches rely
upon knowledge of kernel-internal behavior, though.
