I did go the middle way and implemented the patch in a src tree from
git, to match HEAD (also works, but my auto-tools are probably not in
pristine shape, so had to Talk Sternly to configure after having run
regen.sh. Wrestling with Autoconf as usual takes more time then actual
developement...) and have sent it off to openafs-bugs.
