I'd recommend the exact opposite. With mail, you're dealing with a huge
number of really small files, particularly with maildir deliveries (which
I'd also recommend). That's the worst case scenario for a large cache;
you spend all your time searching the cache and your performance goes to
hell.
I'd instead try a smaller-sized (maybe 100MB to 200MB) memory cache (you
definitely want a memory cache, not a disk cache).
