Hmm.  Perhaps.

As a laptop owner, I like setting the runlevels as:
        2) standalone (no-network) text mode
        3) text-mode
        4) standalone (no-network) X mode
        5) X-mode

Based on these settings, AFS (client and server) would only be started
during runlevels 3 and 5.   YMMV.
