openafs-devel would be a better place for this discussion. You're not the first, in fact the original bsd afs client was for netbsd, and the other bsd clients are derived from it. But the netbsd client was allowed to decay, or rather it was never brought forward after the Transarc source code giveaway.
A netbsd client would be pretty easy for someone who knows what they're doing.
