Unfortunately, OpenAFS requires either the ingrown kerberos, or another
kerberos server... What you _can_ do is set up openLDAP to authenticate
through SASL, which in turn can authenticate through Kerberos.  This is
what we do at my office, and it tends to work well.  (If you need more
info, google for SASL, Kerberos and OpenLDAP)
