Ok. How about MTU? How many segments are involved, and what is the MTU on each?

Client and server are both configured to operate at 100Mbs full-duplex - both client and server have MTU set to 1500
Server is hosted with NetGear GA620 gigabit fiber card w/ acenic kernel driver - configured for 100Mb fdx
Client is Apple Powermac G4 built-in gigabit copper 10bT with apple driver OS X 10.3.4 - negotiates to 100Mbs fdx
Have tried manual and automatic configurations for both ends, have tried forcing both ends to half-duplex, no change in behavior. Switches are configured for correct speed and duplex setting.
