Submounts are system global. They are not per user. Submounts are UNC Shares which are exported by the SMB/CIFS server to the Windows SMB/CIFS client. Think of Submounts as Server Side Aliases.
If you simply want to map a drive from the client you do not need to use them. Just use the full UNC path.

Is there any utility that will store the submount in the users profile? Will open afs look there? I seem to remember that it does (or will) store these settings in the user portion of the registry.
