David:

I am glad to hear you found your problem. I am just wondering.
Did you read the "afs-install-notes.txt" file which indicates that the
servers must be version OpenAFS 1.2.8 or above?

Hi,

After much tinkering I have found the problem and the solution.
My AFS server was running Debian stable, which installs AFS version 1.2.3
This was giving problems with the windows client 1.3.77
I've upgraded AFS and Kerberos from stable to testing (which installs 1.2.13) via apt and now all my windows clients work perfectly.

My answer is "I don't know". I think I would need to access the
cell from a failing client under a debugger to figure out what
is going wrong.
