This is a historical artifact of the method in which names in the PTS
database were arrived at when using Kerberos 4. In Kerberos 4 the
component separator is ".". Therefore, since there currently are no
methods for specifying a separate Kerberos 5 form of the name, the
Kerberos 5 component separator is mapped to ".". This allows both
Kerberos 4 and Kerberos 5 to be used for the same PTS name.
There are proposals to alter the PTS database to allow multiple
authentication mechanism specific names to be associated with a given
PTS ID value. If this work is completed, then the same ID could be
associated with
PTS name jaltman.admin
Kerberos 4 [EMAIL PROTECTED]
Kerberos 5 jaltman/[EMAIL PROTECTED]
