-----BEGIN PGP SIGNED MESSAGE----- Hash: SHA1 Hi!
I want to use the windows profiles of the users here to be stored in OpenAFS filespace. Setup: Windows 2003 Server with ActiveDirectory (Windows Domain) Windows XP SP2 Clients Linux Krb5 server to bad for me, the AD and OpenAFS /krb5 are two password databases, but automatic logon is active and all users get thei tokens while logging in. I setup 3 accounts new in MS Win Server 2003 with the profile in \\AFS\cgv.tugraz.at\home\user\profile and it works. But I tried to redirect the "home" path (the "My Documents" folder in documents & Settings\username\) to another drive and it failed :-( I tried to set it up with the option from the Win Server "Home Folder - Connect U: to \\AFS\cgv.tugraz.at\home\user\winhome\" and after logging in, the drive U was available and there were files and dirs. But I couldn't create any files or folders in this drive, just look and read. So I deleted the redirection and pure profile path works well enough for the 3 accounts. Now I want to move the other users profiles form the HD of the server to the AFS filestorage. To bad, all the users has the U: redirection active. And to bad, I can't read any profile and home directory on the server or change any permission as a administrator. So I tried to backup the profiles fith "ntbackup" and restore ist with permission changed to the AFS directory (just for one test user). And I changed the redirection from U: (deleted this at all). But after logging in, the home path was set to the win 2003 server, not to the profile on AFS (yes, profile path was set to AFS, but "My Documents" was still read from the Win server, but not mounted to U:). I just want to migrate the User Profiles AND the home directory without any notice from the users. OK, we've got just 20 users, but it's not nice to tell them "backup all your work, I want to delete it". Any tips for me? A quick google told me nothing so far.
