Lars:

In other words, you decided to disable the use of Freelance
mode which in turn requires that the 'root.afs' volume for the
workstation cell be reachable in order for the AFS Client Service
to start. Therefore, not only do you need to have the necessary
network connectivity to reach the servers hosting that volume
but you need to install the appropriate CellServDB file on the machine
so that the AFS Client Service knows where to look. This is not
something that OpenAFS can provide for you if your cell is not
registered with grand.central.org.

Organizations that do not wish to register with grand.central.org
are encouraged to distribute transformed versions of the installers
distributed from openafs.org to their end users. The transforms
should include the correct default cell name as well as the appropriate
CellServDB file.

The EXE version of the installer provides a mechanism to allow
the end user to obtain the CellServDB file via a URL provided by
the cell administrator or from an alternative path in local storage.

If someone would like to contribute an enhancement to the installers
to verify the existence of either an entry in the CellServDB file
or AFSDB records for the specified workstation cell and if not
found prompt the user to enter the appropriate values, please send
patches to [EMAIL PROTECTED] Note that any such enhancement
must be disabled during an automated install.
