Assuming there was a Windows AFS Server that you would want to run, then
'yes', you file servers could be a mix of Windows, Linux, Solaris,
HP-UX, AIX, or any other supported operating system.

However, at the present time, there is none.

By convention, AFS is always mounted at /afs on UNIX and \\AFS on
Windows. How you specify the paths to home directories is an operating
system specific operation independent of AFS.

Using real AFS clients on your Windows and MacOS X systems is much
better for your users than using Samba. This is especially true on the
Windows systems since byte range locking is so important to Windows
applications and Samba doesn't actually obtain locks when serving AFS.

That said, for read-only you serve AFS out of Samba just like you would
any other file space.

Do not use the kaserver that comes with OpenAFS. It is deprecated.
Instead use a Kerberos 5 server. MIT Kerberos, Heimdal, or Active
Directory or any other implementation will do.
