can not handle. You said the compiler was SunStudio11. But what version
is ld?
a quick google search suggests this may be something you need to apply
development toolchain patches to the OS for, e.g.

I think there's something more fundamental going on than that, since this
is also failing on Linux HPPA. See:

I hadn't had a chance to investigate that bug further yet.
FWIW, building on a box with 112963-25 (pretty old) worked. Building
on a box with 112963-10 (ancient) did not.
For what it is worth, the OpenAFS 1.4.4 sun4x_59 distribution was built
on a Sun-Blade-100 using the
cc: Sun WorkShop 6 update 2 C 5.3 patch 111679-09 2002/11/12
and Solaris Link Editors: 5.9-1.397
