The default method is "Automatic" which is use Kerberos v5 unless
Kerberos v5 entries do not work, otherwise, try Kerberos v4.

I think you will need to be more explicit about your configuration and
what is being logged by Network Identity Manager.  See the logging on
the General Options page.
