Microsoft is considering contributing funds to support and development
of the OpenAFS Servers on the Microsoft Windows Server platform. For a
description of the proposed project see:

http://www.secure-endpoints.com/openafs-windows-roadmap.html#afs%20servers

Microsoft is considering a contribution of approximately 1/4th of the
project or $25,000. I am seeking organizations that would be interested
in funding or contributing code for the other 3/4ths. In addition,
Microsoft would provide technical assistance from the Windows Storage team.

The goal would be to have working AFS Servers on Windows Server for the
second quarter of 2008 with Active Directory integration, Management
Console snap-ins and installation wizards completed in the second half
of 2008.

One of the most important aspects of this project is that it would
establish a formal relationship between Microsoft and Secure Endpoints
Inc. in support of OpenAFS on Microsoft Windows. It would remove much
of the fear, uncertainty and doubt surrounding the OpenAFS community's
ability to maintain compatibility with future Microsoft Windows platforms.

If your organization would be interested in seeing supporting this
project, please contact me.
