We found that posting, but were puzzled that we could create more directories with shorter names.Is there a simple explanation?not really, but for 32 character length names i have seen the 31707 number repeatedly. i'd guess that it has to do with availability of consecutive slots. i'd have to read the code to be certain.
That is exactly the reason. A slot can contain a name up to 15 characters. Names larger than 15 characters are supported by continuing
into the next slot. If there are no consecutive slots, then the name limit reverts to 15.
