Microsoft Windows XP and above includes the Microsoft Windows Error Reporting Service. When activated, if there is a premature process termination or a hung process, Windows will generate a minidump and collect some statistics regarding the version data of the modules loaded into the process image and offer to send them to Microsoft for analysis.

Secure Endpoints Inc. is registered with Microsoft to receive all error reports that have been filed against OpenAFS. If you are experiencing crashes on a production server, you can activate Windows Error Reporting and permit the crash reports to be sent to Microsoft. There is a delay of approximately two weeks between when a report is received by Microsoft and when I am able to view it.

Many of the bugs that have been fixed in OpenAFS for Windows were identified by the Windows Error Reports. However, Windows Error Reports are not a substitute for an OpenAFS bug report. A Windows Error Report includes no context describing how OpenAFS was being used at the time of the report nor does it provide any method by which the proposed fix can be tested against the environment that produced the crash in the first place.
