Based on the recommendation at the bottom of
http://www.openafs.org/windows.html
I recently installed http://support.microsoft.com/kb/971421 on my
Windows XP (32-bit) SP3 system. This fix installs mrxsmb.sys version
5.1.2600.5815 dated 2009-05-18. I did this when upgrading to OpenAFS
1.5.61, and I later upgraded to OpenAFS 1.5.62.
Without realizing a coincidence at first, I since had several strange
experiences with my system.
(1) When waking up from hibernation, the system started to load the
hibernation file, but then actually booted from scratch as if it had
crashed while reactivating the saved state.
(2) Logging in a local (non-domain) user took extremely long.
(3) Today, I had a blue screen mentioning mrxsmb.sys.
I am not sure whether (1) and (2) are related to the hotfix, but (3)
obviously is, so it might be worth keeping an eye on whether the fix
provided by Microsoft and scheduled to be part of SP4 doesn't introduce
new problems.
