Thanks, at least that narrows it down to a volume. I found a posting from 27 Mar 2007 where Miles Davis of Stanford wrote that he had written a version of volid.pl with the vnode bits and said it was available here:
/afs/cs.stanford.edu/u/miles/src/afstools/volid/volid.pl Unfortunately our Cyber folks have decided to block all outgoing AFS traffic from our site, so I can't get to it - any chance someone could send it to me? Otherwise I may install AFS on my home computer try to get it tonight.
