Thanks for the info.  I will keep this in mind if I notice 'vos release'

Yes, I see.  If it is just a matter of expectation, then I think we can get
in the habit of always mounting with "-rw" where necessary.

Various people have done this sort of thing before.  It works if you know
> what you're getting into and what to expect from it.

This is the hard part... we don't fully know what we're getting into, but we
will roll it out to small groups of users at a time and learn along the way.
