Oracle is making it pretty clear that Solaris is only for
Solaris hardware and they are changing the support/price
structure.
Ideally, we'd like to run Solaris on commodity x86 boxes rather
than the increasingly expensive thumper boxes.
For whatever reason Oracle is pricing themselves out of the
market wrt to generic hardware.

Exactly. In addition Oracle discounts are no where near
what we used to get with Sun. So if we wanted to buy Oracle
hardware (thumpers) it's significantly more than what we've
been paying.
