We're using xfs on top of md s/w raid-1 over a local and an iscsi disk on a couple of low-end servers since a year or so. We had some problems since we set it up, but it was never conclusive whether this was due to xfs, iscsi or something else.
Since a couple of weeks we're using xfs on top of device mapper raid-1 over external sas disks. So far, it seems OK, but it's probably too early to say something definitive.
