The newly submitted patch for this can be found here, for those that
want it (not submitted for 1.6 yet, but I think it will apply):

That appears to get rid of the underlying issue, but you still may have
some truncated files after running with that, so you may want to salvage
recently used volumes (or just salvage the whole server).
