Hi folks,

In Richard Campbell's "Managing AFS: the Andrew File System" (Prentice-Hall, 1998), regarding backup volumes it says on page 100 that:

"User backup volumes can be mounted once in some well-known area,
either one set aside for all backups or perhaps inside the home
   directory itself."

The latter appealed to me, so I tried it out, creating a mount point in each home directory called "snapshot." However, after running "vos backupsys user" a second time and checking to see if the backup volume had indeed been updated, I noticed this ugly looking little entry had appeared in the snapshot directory:

   ?????????? ? ? ? ? ? snapshot

When a backup volume is made of a user volume and then mounted inside the same user volume, is it possible to prevent a broken mount point for it from appearing in the backup volume after subsequent "vos backupsys" operations?

Thanks,

Jaap
