If you want to cache to a single client, and not have each client hit and cache from the server, it helps.

It should be fairly easy to set up using pam (krb5 I assume Russ added the get token capability to the krb5 module), and plain text passwords and xinetd.

The Samba team fixed the 64-bit bug, in samba 3.4.15 (I didn't go back and check the 3.5.x after they fixed the bug..) + xinetd.

I just set it up on Centos 6.

Hi,

I am currently testing OpenAFS on Debian 1.14.12 and would like some
advice on how to expose OpenAFS via Samba for Windows clients. Is there
an OpenAFS/Samba guide to help with this? Is Samba used by many
installations for this purpose or is the advise to use the Windows 1.7
client, if so, why?

You want to use OpenAFS 1.7.2 for Windows native. Really.
Native client is far better integrated into system, has higher speed and no hassle for the gateway samba-afs.
