Last night version 1.7.3 was released which fixes as many of the outstanding issues that have been reported with sufficient detail to reproduce.

The current known issues are:
  1. Open a Microsoft Office 2010 document from \\AFS and suspend the machine.  Upon resume the document will be in read only mode.  This will be fixed in a future release when power mgmt support is added to the afs redirector.
  2. A failure loading Group Policy information on 32-bit Vista due to a crash in an instance of svchost.exe at boot.  This is being investigated.  Once the cause is identified it will be fixed in a future release.
Missing features:
  1. Native Heimdal integration.  Requires a fix to the Kerberos Compatibility SDK.
At the recent European AFS Conference and in private e-mail many site administrators have indicated that they need the OpenAFS client to be stable on Windows 7 no later than March 2012.  In reality that means to me that OpenAFS 1.8.0 must be released no later than mid-January.  This does not leave a lot of calendar time.  It is the end of the semester and the holidays are a few weeks away.  If your organization is planning on relying upon the OpenAFS Windows client, please test it thoroughly now.

Thank you
