I've seen that too. Solaris 10 zone as fs, vldb on same host in another
zone, client in third zone (inheriting /afs from global zone, which
the server zones did not) and server sw 1.4.12ish. Problem persisted
for weeks until I had time to do research (= drink coffee with Harald)
and fs checkv fixed things.

I know that 1.4.12 is old, just wanted to point out that this, if being
a bug, has been with us for some time.
