You probably ran out of room in the directory for new entries.
Each directory has a limit of 64K directory chunks.  The number of
chunks required to represent a given file name is determined by the
length of the name.

  First 12 characters of the name fit in the first chunk.

  Each additional fraction of 32 characters requires an
  additional chunk.

How many files did you create?
