Your investigation has been focused on a client issue but there are two other possibilities: 1. a network or firewall related issue 2. an OpenAFS fileserver issue If your machine reboots and obtains the same IP address each time, it is possible that the problem is specific to that IP address and port 7001. Given that running the client in a VM on your machine works, that lends weight to the theory it is specific to the one IP address and port number. You will need the assistance of the AFS administrator to further isolate the problem by capturing network packets on afsfs11.psi.ch. If no such packets arrive from the client, then its a problem within the network. If the packets do arrive, its a problem with the fileserver. Jeffrey Altman
