The specified DNS hostname can either be an A record or a CNAME record. The hostname is only used by the Windows Cache Manager, Windows authentication provider, and Windows network provider. All of the command line tools, the UNIX cache manager, and the servers only use the specified IP address. Jeffrey Altman
