patch #3: looks good patch #4: probably some races we will have to discover via QA. requires recompile of other service engines like cman. Looks good to merge. I know #1 and #2 may seem anal, but if you don't do it, then I have to and I'm really strapped for time. Once you rework 1 and 2 I'll merge the entire stream together as separate patches.
