I know a few people have asked me privately about "when is the next release"
and "do we have to wait for OB-3.0"?

So a few suggestions open to discussion
- The current trunk should become OB version 2.3, likely releasing in early
spring 2010. It will offer 2D layout, improved stereochemistry, etc. Sounds
like a good release.

- While v2.3 will obviously have new API, I think we should make every effort
not to break ABI -- the binary compatibility. I have not yet tested this, but
the main restrictions are not to add overloaded parameters to function calls,
new virtual functions, etc.

- Efforts for OB version 3.0 are still under discussion. Several of us have
been collaborating with the developers of RDKit for a "MolCore" library. This
would be BSD-licensed and used as the core for future versions of both OB and
RDKit. We have sketched out much of the design, but have not yet put code
together.

Since it's already November, should we try to put together a "2.3 To Do Items"
list? I've gotten things started on the wiki:

P.S. There's also the old 3.0 projects list...
