While at the ACS a month ago I met some power users of Open Babel and was surprised to hear that they are still using the babel executable instead of obabel.

You should used the obabel executable instead. obabel has more features and works much better. For more information on using obabel, type "obabel -H" """ Ok, so maybe we won't remove 'babel' in a future release (though I recommend aliasing babel to obabel in a few years), but it's time to start encouraging users to switch.
