As I commented multiple times on the list, this error indicates you're 
compiling and linking against different versions of Python.

In your case, I can guarantee that "otool -L 
/usr/local/Download/openbabel/lib/python2.7/site-packages/_openbabel.so" does 
not link to whatever version of Python you're using.
