I'm happy to announce the release of an updated version of the ChemSpotlight tool for Mac OS X 10.5 or later.
ChemSpotlight is a Spotlight metadata importer plugin for Mac OS X, which reads common chemical file formats using the Open Babel chemistry library. Spotlight can then index and search chemical data: molecular weights, formulas, SMILES, InChI, fingerprints, etc. Version 2.0 now include support for more formats, 64-bit support, and best of all, QuickLook previews of molecular files in the Finder, courtesy of ChemDoodle Web Components. This provides an interactive 3D view of your files, all via HTML and JavaScript. Under the hood, ChemSpotlight uses Open Babel to read and understand file formats. For more information and to download ChemSpotlight, see http://chemspotlight.openmolecules.net/ Cheers, -Geoff P.S. This is a one-time plug for the product. New releases are announced elsewhere, but I thought other Open Babel users might be interested. Any file format supported by Babel can easily be indexed by ChemSpotlight. Feature suggestions welcome. ------------------------------------------------------------------------------ Xperia(TM) PLAY It's a major breakthrough.
