There's really no performance benefit to precompiled templates. It turns out that the BD parser is quite fast--faster than Java object deserialization from a file, which is used to implement precompiled templates.
The GPL requires that you include your application source code when you distribute it with OpenBD, so securing (hiding) your application source code is pretty much incompatible with the GPL (if you're not distributing your application then you don't need to release your source, but then you don't need to hide it anyway). You'll need to purchase a license for a commercial edition of BD in order to use the precompiled templates feature. If you want to redistribute BD with your application, we offer VAR/OEM pricing that can be signifcantly less expense than retail pricing; contact [email protected] for more info.
