Do the directories indexed by Lucene have to be local to the server where OpenBD is installed or can it index remote locations as in a Windows share from a Linux machine?
It should be able to index anything that is accessible to the user account under which OpenBD (well, your Java servlet container actually) is running. The reason I phrase things that way is because if, for example, you have a share that's accessible to you personally as a user, that doesn't necessarily mean the user account being used by OpenBD will have that same access.
This is particularly important on Windows because by default many things run under the local system account, which has NO access to network resources. Short answer is with the right credentials and access OpenBD won't care where what it's indexing is located.
